General Questions
What is Dartmoor Makers?
Dartmoor Makers is a community pottery studio and creative workspace. We offer hands-on workshops, classes and events in pottery, art and craft for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re trying something new or building on existing skills, we provide a welcoming space to learn, make and connect.
Who are your workshops for?
Our workshops are open to everyone! We run sessions for adults, children, families, schools and community groups. No previous experience is necessary.
Do I need to have any experience to join a workshop?
No, not at all. Most of our classes are suitable for complete beginners and we’ll guide you through the creative process step by step.
How do I book a class or event?
You can book directly through our website. Each class has a booking button and more information. If you have any questions, or want help choosing a session, feel free to contact us via the Contact page or though our email address found at the bottom of this webpage.
Workshop & Class Information
When will my work be ready for collection?
Your work will usually be ready 2 to 4 weeks after your session, depending on drying and kiln schedules. Please make a note of when to come back, as we’re not able to send individual reminders. Due to limited storage space, work not collected within 8 weeks may be recycled or discarded unless you’ve contacted us to arrange something different.
What do I need to bring to the class?
You don’t need to bring anything, all tools, materials and aprons are provided.Â
What should I wear to a workshop?
Art, craft and pottery can be messy, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. In the pottery studio clay will wash out but some oxides, slips and glazes may stain.
Children & Families
Can I stay with my child during family workshops?
For most children’s workshops, especially children under eight, we ask that a parent or carer stays with their child. For older children, drop-off may be fine – just check the class description when booking.
Do you offer birthday parties or special events for children?
Yes! We love hosting creative birthday parties and can tailor the activity to suit your child’s interests. Get in touch to discuss options and availability.
Are your spaces and activities safe for young children?
Yes. We risk assess all activities and have procedures in place to keep children safe while they explore and create. Please let us know of any additional needs or concerns.
Booking, Payment & Policies
How do I pay for a class?
You can book and pay securely through our website. Some community-funded events may be free or donation-based.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes, we do! Gift vouchers can be used towards any class or workshop. They make lovely presents for birthdays or just because.
Can I book a private workshop or group session?
Yes! We offer tailored sessions for schools, community groups, or friends/families wanting to book a private experience. Contact us to arrange something special.
Pottery Studio
