Creating Connection – Welcome to Dartmoor Makers

The power of creativity

At Dartmoor Makers, we believe in the transformative power of creativity. Our non-profit community pottery studio and creative workspace is more than just a place to mould clay and fire pots—it’s a vibrant hub for artists, hobbyists, and anyone with an interest in using their hands or self-expression. Whether you’re an experienced potter/crafter/maker or someone curious about trying your creative hand for the first time, you are more than welcome to join us.

A Space for All Skill Levels

Our studio is designed to cater to a wide range of skill levels. Are you a beginner who has never touched a wheel before? No problem. Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers are here to guide you every step of the way. More advanced? We’ve got specialized tools to help you refine your craft and push your boundaries. We always have more to learn from each other.

The Joy of Creating Something Tangible

In a world increasingly dominated by technology and screens, pottery offers a refreshing return to tactile creativity. There’s something uniquely satisfying about shaping a lump of clay into a functional or artistic piece with your own hands. It’s therapeutic, grounding, and can even be a form of mindfulness.

At Dartmoor Makers, we offer a variety of pottery workshops and classes—from hand-building techniques to wheel-throwing sessions, glazing workshops, and more. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the joy of working with clay, now’s your chance.

If you prefer other forms of making, we also have craft and writing workshops as well as ongoing classes in our workspace upstairs. Come and sit round the table with us, learn a new skill, and enjoy a hot drink with the other creators. There’s something for everyone.

Our Mission: Making Art Accessible to All

What makes our studio special is our commitment to accessibility. As a non-profit, we believe that financial barriers shouldn’t keep anyone from tapping into their creative potential. Art should be for everyone, and we’re proud to create a space that reflects that. When you enrol in an adult class, you will be helping us provide subsidised places for our popular after-school pottery and craft classes. The children love these (and create some wonderful things) and we’re determined that none of them should miss out.

A Community of Creatives

The heart of our studio isn’t just the pottery—it’s the people. We are a community of like-minded individuals who come together to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and support each other’s artistic growth. Our open studio hours provide a welcoming environment for creative exploration and collaboration.

Join Us and Get Involved

Whether you want to participate in classes, volunteer, or simply be part of the creative energy that fills our space, we’d love for you to join us. Here’s how you can get involved:
